What is load range ‘E’ on a tire?

Do you know what is the load range A, B, C, D, E or F mentioned on sidewall of some tires? It is an traditional way of indicating the load carrying capacity of tire, equivalent to the number of plies in tire. However, the ply rating is specifically mean there’s N number of plies in tire construction.

The load range on replacement tires must meet or exceed the recommendation on your vehicle’s door placard or owner’s manual. It can be higher than recommended but never lower.
