China Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Halogenated Butyl Rubber from US, EU, UK, and Singapore

On August 20, 2024, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced the imposition of anti-dumping duties on halogenated butyl rubber imported from the United States, the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom (UK), and Singapore. Effective from Tuesday, these new duties will range between 23.1% and 75.5%, applying to all related companies over the next five years.

This decision follows an earlier imposition of anti-dumping duties in August 2018, which also targeted halogenated butyl rubber from the US, the EU, and Singapore. The Ministry’s latest ruling stems from an anti-dumping investigation launched in August 2023, which found that continued or resumed dumping of this material could harm China’s domestic industry.

Halogenated butyl rubber is a crucial component in various products, including tubeless tires, heat-resistant inner tubes, medicinal bottle stoppers, shockproof pads, adhesives, and sealing materials. The new duties aim to protect China’s market from unfair competition and potential damage to its related industries.
